learning more about men’s suits

I’m trying to learn more about men’s suits. After watching Scott try on suits at a few stores I’m surprised by the number of details that there are to attend to. In particular we’re trying to figure out the question of pant cuffs, yes or no?

And a bunch of advice at Ask Metafilter:

Cuffs? Generally speaking, cuffs tend to make the legs look shorter. And yes, you will find cuffs more often on pleated pants than flat front. Above anything, understand this: there are no HARD rules about men’s clothing, other than never button the bottom button on a vest, jacket or cardigan.
I assume you are looking for something like the last post (in terms of cut and color)? Good choice! My suggestion: try on many many suits, regardless of price. Then find one in your budget that has the right fit in the shoulders and is made of the material you want. You can have the suit altered in a timely fashion to fit most any way you want, as long as the jacket fits in the shoulders. If you’re looking for something classic and generally awesome, go to the Downtown Nordy’s and ask for Terry. He’s the best-dressed guy in town and a REALLY nice guy. For something more contemporary, try Kuhlman on First. They do everything from off the rack sales to custom tailoring. It really just depends on your budget. Final suggestion? Nordstrom Rack downtown. Smaller selection, but great prices, plus they do alterations.

Thank you so much Mr. B. We have a tour of downtown stores planned so we’ll use all your suggestions really soon.
