Even though we’re eloping to Vegas I have a cake already picked out, it happened by accident. Some very dear friends gave us a present of a bottle of good champagne so we went to a bakery nearby, the Sugar Rush bakery, and bought a selection of cupcakes. I’m a sucker for cupcakes decorated with nonperils so I bought a vanilla cupcake with raspberry filling and white chocolate frosting, which isn’t something I’d normally try. It was unexpectedly good with champagne. So good, in fact, that I decided it was going to be our wedding cake. (This was before the elopement plans were solid.) The bakery makes it as a special order cake called the High ‘n Mighty, a four layer cake that comes in three sizes to serve between 12 and 30 people. This cake has convinced me we need to have a small champagne reception for our friends here in town just to have an excuse to order it.

The Sugar Rush bakery also has wedding menus, including cakes, cupcakes and a dessert buffet. They offer tastings, which we’re going to go in for since I’m hoping to find since that as long as we’re gonna have a small reception we might as well have a chocolate cake too.

Megan, I love all of the ideas here and I love the way your are thinking about this wedding. But I do have a question for you because I’ve read every entry and can’t remember reading about it — are you truly eloping? Can you tell us what eloping means to you in your own specific case? I hope there’s no judgment that comes across here, it’s truly just curiosity.
Laura - Nope, we’re not truly eloping in that we’re not running away and getting married without telling anybody, the blog title is a play on that idea. Instead we’re getting married inexpensively then having a reception at home for our West coast friends and later on a larger reception for all of our family and old friends in Ohio and on the East coast. It’s was completely impractical to ask one set of people to travel to the other side of the country when it was so much easier for us to travel to them. Also, neither of us found we wanted a ceremony wedding, but just going to the courthouse here didn’t seem very adventurous either. So instead we ended on a cliche, I realize, but I’ve never been to Vegas and I’m looking forward to it.
i LOVE that you love Sugar Rush Bakery. i’ve been trying to convince many of my seattle friends that their cupcakes certainly rival (if not exceed) trophy and cupcake royale in goodness.
hope your cake + elopement + wedding is sweet!
Thanks Julie!
We loved the wedding cake Sugar Rush made for our wedding. It was simple and sweet.

we’re getting our wedding (cup)cakes from sugar. i like the fact that they’re still sort of unknown so their pricing is pocket friendly. =)
