Meg at A Practical Wedding reminded me that today is the day that the California Supreme Court is hearing arguments about whether Proposition 8 is a valid amendment to the state of California’s constitution. When same sex couples were getting married in California, inside and on the steps of the city hall I used to pass nearly every day, I was touched more than I expected to be and also ashamed that I had so much taken for granted my right to marry the person I loved. Last November I wished I was still living in California so I could have at least been one vote against Proposition 8. So here is to hoping that the work done today in the courtroom restores the right to marry to anybody who loves each other and wants to build a life together. Meg writes far more eloquently than me on this point and I thank her for it.
