Planning To Elope

shoe shopping

I’m officially looking for wedding shoes. My feet are persnickety, long and narrow and often grumpy when forced into heels so I’m looking for something low and hopefully comfortable. While I’d love something like the Rose covered Nike air pumps from Cole Haan seen at Something Old, Something New I just don’t think I’ll be needing to spend as much on the shoes as on the dress. Above are the shoes I’ve ordered from Endless.com (all are on sale) in the hopes that one will match the dress fairly well.

I’m also keeping in mind wearing blue shoes, I’ve seen people on the Indiebride forums who are doing this as the “something blue”. We might give Scott a blue tie so I might just get away with matching the shoes. I’m completely undecided on this, but there are some quite lovely shoes that I would consider.

One of the things I’ve seen recommended for brides who want comfortable shoes are Crocs (shh, I know I know) Prima ballerina flats. I’ve tried these on and they are too wide for me, but in looking around I came across these Oka B. Caroline platform slides in an off white color (vanilla) that have a removable ribbon, which I could replace with something that matches the bouquet or dress. I think these shoes just might work out for a Vegas wedding.

And, I’m very very late to the party on this one, but I do love the blue soled wedding shoes, apparently an idea taken from the much sought and devastatingly no longer available Christian Louboutin wedding shoes. The Flirty Guide tells you where you can get your own blue soles done professionally, for less than you might expect.

You should definitely get something with a bit of a heel.

    Katie - Please elaborate.

How do you feel about Danskos? I’m not planning to get married, but in case my plans change I already have my shoes picked out: Dansko Marcelles in white!

(Actually, me being me, I’d probably just wear my shiny red ones. But I digress.)

… I love those blue shoes. All of them. They’re beautiful. So count me as a vote for that if you care ;). Also the blue soled thing I hadn’t heard of but those are also gorgeous. Anyways. Having the opposite problem of you, short fat feet, I understand the inability to find beautiful comfortable dress shoes. So I sympathize. Good luck!

Chez Shoes - Sadly, none of the shoes that treat you so well fit me at all. They are all too wide and twist and rub on my feet as I walk. It’s strange and more than a bit frustrating.

I do think you should go with a colour of some sort - I think it will be cheeky and fun.

Petite Anglaise rocked some red heels, though they look a bit high to me.

Megan, I was afraid of that! You would think that since my problem (short, wide feet) rules out most manufacturers out there, everything that doesn’t fit me would fit you perfectly and there would be a wide range to choose from - but things are never that simple, are they?

I love the idea of the blue soles.

I bought a pair of Gabrielle Rocha shoes from Zappos that are very similar in style and color to the Nine West pair. (In fact, the Nine West pair was my second choice.) The Rocha shoes are a brighter blue — teal, really.

I can’t wait to wear them for my wedding in May. I promised myself I’d save them until then but after that they’re fair game to wear anytime! :)

I love the Clarks brand for comfy shoes.

Oh NotMartha, please don’t wear Crocs (or other plastic shoes) on your wedding day! The day - and the pictures - are just too special. Spend what it takes to get a comfortable, gorgeous, at least semi-formal shoe whose awesomeness matches the occasion. And enjoy!

I agree with Katie. If your dress is going to hit you about calf length to knee, you will look short and stumpy with almost no heel or flats.
    Something like these.
Sexy and fun….. but not competing with the dress…

Lizzy - We’re going to have photos taken at a different time after we get back home. I mean, we’ll have photographs of the day but the official ones we show other people will be taken later when I’m less freaked out and more likely to be able to avoid being shiny.

Tina - thanks for the suggestions. I’ve tried some of those pairs and I’m in serious danger not being able to walk for the rest of the day after wearing them for only a short time. It’s a thing, I realize, but I like being able to walk.

Thanks so much for the suggestions, I’ll take a look at Rocha and Clarks.

I second the idea of having comfortable shoes. You will remember how much fun you had instead of how much your feet hurt.

I suggest beautiful heels for the pictures, fun shoes for celebrating afterwards. I painted some keds (well they were like keds but with a little thicker sole) with a leopard print and that kept me on my feet until 4 in the morning dancing (about 30 of us went to a disco after our reception in full wedding regalia - it was great fun). It wasn’t my feet that ended the night it was sheer exhaustion.

Go with comfortable, you’ll thank yourself later!!
