Planning To Elope

exciting last minute developments

We’re closer to leaving for Vegas than I’ve really let on and so the developments over the last few days are extra exciting.

Calvin Klein three piece suit

Development #1: We found Scott a vested suit! When we checked with the Men’s Warehouse a few months ago the woman helping us said we should check back because she thought perhaps more vested suits were going to appear. And sure enough last week when I checked the website there was a Calvin Klein vested suit, two button jacket, flat front pants, very dark gray, all the things we were looking for. Men’s Warehouse was able to get the suit in for us and last night Scott tried it on and bought it right away. Yay! He looks really great it in, if I may say so myself. (That is not him above, that’s the model on the website!)

Development #2: I found fake hair for my wedding! After some frantic exchanges with the place where I’d bought my first tragic bun I got this braided bun, in a color that matches my hair remarkably well, just yesterday. But, I sort of hate it. It looks oddly conservative and old fashioned and didn’t fill out the silhouette of my hair the way I’d hoped it would. Then today at TJ Maxx I found a deeply discounted 15″ HairDo piece in a color that is almost perfect. I clipped it in, pulled bits up and as I type this my hair looks like this:

It’s perfect, messy and sweepy and far more dramatic than I could achieve with the small amount of real hair I have. Now I just need to recreate this and I’m set.

I love it when a plan comes together.

It’s perfect!! If you hadn’t said anything I would have thought that was all your own hair! Good luck, I can’t wait to see the pictures when you get back. Thank you for blogging your process.

Forgot to mention: are you aware you just quoted Hannibal from the A-Team?

Ok, I admit it, I was skeptical (bordering on “disapproving”?) on the fake hair thing. But wow, it looks great! Flowy (is that a word?) and messy (in a good way!) and natural. I have officially been proved wrong. You’re going to look amazing at your wedding. :)

lsaspacey - Oh yes, it was intentional!

Lindsay - Thank you. It did work out better than I expected. I learned a lot about the various fake hairpieces and I have to say I don’t like most of them.

The hair looks great! I’ve reached the age where all my friends (and their brothers, sisters, and next door neighbors) are all getting married. I have very thin hair as well and have thought about investing in a hair piece just to add some bulk. I’ve always been skeptical, but these photos give me some faith!

Your wedding is going to be great! Congrats!

Kristel - From what I’ve learned so far I don’t like any of the clip on additions, all the buns and ponytails are awkward and don’t look as good in person. However, I’m really very pleased with how well this one worked out. If I wear it down, the way it was intended, it doesn’t quite look at natural, more because the texture of the synthetic hair is very different from my natural hair. But pinned up and really mixed in I think it works. I wore this hair out to do some errands and I felt quite natural, if perhaps a bit done up. I would encourage you to try it out, but be absolutely careful to match the color well. I think it would be worth it to pay a bit more to be able to see the actual one in a shop, though it’s hard to find pieces in shops, at least where I live. Best of luck!

You might want to look at the clip-in extensions made by Easihair and by Put On Pieces. Both carry synthetic and human hair (which comes with some heavy ethical questions).

Your hair looks amazing. I would have been completely fooled. You did that yourself? I cannot do anything in the back. I’m amazed I can clasp my own bra.

I’m so excited for you guys!!! I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow!
