poofy tea length dresses: Michelle Roth ‘Maya’

Michelle Roth Maya tea length wedding gown

When I started doing research into what tea length dresses were available I came across this adorable poofy number by Michelle Roth quite a lot. I like it. It’s called Maya and it’s (sounds of doom) no longer available. At least, that’s what I keep reading. It was, as far as I can tell, exclusive to Kleinfeld Manhattan and became very popular when it was featured on a reality bridal television show (I think it was Say Yes To the Dress?) which I’ve never watched but have seen countless commercials for.

poofy tea length gown from Julius Bridal

The girls on the Indiebride forums pointed me towards a Maya knockoff over at Julius Bridal. It lacks some of the attractive swell of the skirts and is a bit shorter but, hey, it’s polka dotted and cute. One Indiebride was kind enough to share pictures of her Julius dress, which you can find here, and it works really nicely as an outdoor wedding dress.

I kept doing research and finding more and more dresses that I liked but I kept coming back to admire the Maya for it’s simplicity. Short + poofy + polka dots + cute = very appealing. I’m keeping this in mind for the end of summer reception. In a different color and maybe with far less poof.

You simply must watch ‘Say Yes to the Dress!” I love it! And I love the dress above! I bet you would look great in it!

omg I could not have come across your blog at a better time!…I am totally planning a vegas wedding for next spring, and actually just got back from there on a bit of a chapel “tour” trying to decide which one I wanted. (for the record I have picked the Tropicana chapel) –which one were you thinking of? I visited most of them on the strip if you wanted some candid 411…. were you also planning a reception there as well (or is this a strict elopment with just the two of you?)
anyway congrats! I look forward to checking back here often :)

Fresh idea: dog instead of bouquet.

I do love the poofy-tea length numbers but am worried that they may overwhelm me, what with being knome sized — almost 5′2″! — and all. As a fellow petite woman, have you tried on any of the poofy dresses? What’s your opinion on the ideal poof/height ratio?

It’s still available at Kleinfeld. It’s one of the few tea length dresses they have there, although they boast the largest variety of wedding dresses in the country?! Anyhow, I got to try it on a few weeks ago. It’s cute, but I decided against it. It had too much poof and was just too white white for me….I decided on a Stephanie James dress.

Cara - We’re doing the elopement thing in Vegas, with a big family reception on the other side of the country later in the summer. Since everybody is over there it made sense for us to travel to them. We chose a cute little chapel off the strip but they have limo service to and from the hotel.

Sarah - I have to admit I found the BCBG dress before I had a chance to try on any poofy numbers so I cannot say how they might work on my short self. The Indiebride forums actually have a whole thread on this subject, it might help.

    HELLO!

I just got the Michelle Roth gown at a store other than Kleinfeld. There is a bridal store in San Diego, CA that sells Michelle Roth gowns. It is called Here Comes the Bride. The quality of the gown is undeniable… it is built incredibly. And a side note, the polka dot material is a sheer with embroidered polka dots. the waist it individually cut out and sewn on polka dots. I was just so impressed… and the first three layers of tulle have a sweet edging of lace, and the solid layer is a heavy satin. I just love it!

Also I got the gown for under $2,400… and free alterations because I am out of state. I guess it is a little pricey, but so worth it!!!!
